Professor David Nutt: What's wrong with our drug laws, and what can we do to fix them?

David's talk will reveal the dishonesty behind the drug laws and explain how they have had major untoward consequences in terms of worsening health and limiting scientific research. Finally he will explore sensible ways forward — such as the cannabis policy that the Liberal Democrats have developed.

Professor David Nutt is a pharmacologist specialising in the research of drugs that affect the brain. He hit headlines when he was dismissed from a government advisory role in 2009 for pointing out that the scientific evidence was at odds with government policy. He has since become a prominent campaigner for evidence-based drug policy and science communicator.

His award-winning book Drugs – Without the Hot Air: Minimising the Harms of Legal and Illegal Drugs looks at the "war on drugs" and suggests more evidence-based ways of minimizing harms from drugs. Copies of the book will be on sale and David will be happy to sign them.

People from all political parties and none are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

The venue is two minutes' walk from Harrow-on-the-Hill station or Harrow bus station.
