I am a retired civil servant. I was born in Surrey and moved to Harrow in 1986. I joined the Lib Dems in Harrow because I was concerned about the rightward and irrational drift of our politics, and the consequent need for centrist, moderate, fair and rational politics. Brexit – the trashing of a complex of trading and diplomatic relationships which served us well – was the catalyst. But I am also becoming increasingly concerned that our unwritten constitution and electoral system are under threat and in need of overhaul to ensure a vibrant democracy.
The Lib Dems also represent the social and economic policies I favour, fiscally responsible but concerned to meet the challenge of climate change and of the increasingly poor living conditions of many of our people. Experience shows that Lib Dems are good at running councils. I am now Chair of the Harrow Lib Dems.
